Mother's Day is just around the corner! Kathleen here with you again with a very special project.  Being a first time grandmother I am always buying my grandson books even though he is far to young to read!  So, I thought it would be nice to make an over-sized book mark for my daughter-in-law this mother's day.

This project is perfect for any of those 8x8 paper pad collections you may have.  I used this sweet Graphic 45 Mother Goose collection.  The packaging from the ornate metal label holder was a perfect  template for the base of the book mark.

1. I traced and cut out two 8x4" pieces (Twinkle Little Star, and the back of the pad).  I glued these two pieces together with Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue.  You want a nice sturdy book mark that can stand the test of time with young fingers!

2. Next I cut out the rest of the bits and pieces I would need.  

Playful Postage 1/2"x4" and 1"x4" strips of the checkered side(I used a Martha Steward punch on this piece), flower border and twinkle, twinkle saying on the other side.  Sunshine stripe 2 1/1x4"  strip.  Fussy cut various flowers from the Ring Around the Rosies paper.  Finally a large postage stamp from the Story time paper and a large post card of your choosing.

3. Using a corner punch round all the bottom pieces.  You will have already done this step with the base of the BM.  The top checker piece will also require the corner punch to fit nicely in the curves of the BM.  Now I simply started layering the bits and pieces on the front side.  I found a bit of lace which I tucked into the pocket where the small postage stamp peeps out.

4.  Now on to the glam!  In my stash I found these adorable stars by Creative Embellishments. They were lightly painted with Shimmerz Inklingz Meet Me @ Sunset yellow.  To top them  top them off I used Helmar Gemstone Glue to adhere these coral dots.  I don't about you but I find that unless I use a really good glue these gem will fall off your projects! Diamond gems are scattered around the stars to give a twinkle to the book mark.

Kathleen here hoping everyone is having is enjoying the beautiful spring weather! 

  Today I have a layout I created for C.S.I.'s new challenge #162.  Creative Embellishments is a major sponsor for C.S.I. this month,  so all of our design team gals from Creative Embellishments have been guest designing for them.

I actually created this layout several years ago thinking I would go through my pictures and find one to match. But, I got side tracked and the layout eventually landed in a pile of papers and filed away. So, when this challenge came up I went through my papers and found this layout amongst them.  Perfect!! and score!!  My daughter and I had been to a Chinese cultural fair and they had a photo booth.  Now I have the perfect pictures. 

 

The film strip was spray with Art Anthology black paint.  For the words and flourish I used black embossing powder.  The out of this world frame was painted white then stamped with Distressed Crackle Stamp.

The background received a light coat of gesso then random areas of polka dot masking finished by splatterings of white paint.  Then I came back with the Distressed Checkers and Distressed Script Stamp.

I hope this has inspired you to give our challenge here at Creative Embellishments a go as well as the CSI challenges!

Rainbows in a Boat

 I had such a delightful time pulling this layout together.  This was total me time.  This picture was taken at the Dallas Arboretum in December where they were hosting a Chihuly glass exhibit.  This boat filled with rainbow colored orbs was floating in an infinity pool; breath takingly beautiful.

Sentiments Card {Frosted Designs DT}

Greetings all!  Looking out into my backyard I see an abundance of beautiful spring flowers. As I sat down to my craft table I spied these sweet butterflies and flourish and knew this was a card in the making.

I drew my color palette from from all of the beautiful flowers blooming in my back yard.  I purposely left the card sentiment vague so that it could be used for a wide range of occasions.

Creative Embellishments and CSI #161

"Adventure"

Kathleen here with my take on CSI case file 161. 

Greetings everyone!  So happy you stopped by today.  

Today I have a layout I created for  C.S.I. for their current challenge #161.

Creative Embellishments are a major sponsor over at CSI for April, so all of our DT girls from Creative Embellishments have been guest designing for them.  

Here is the case file.  I used all of the colors.

These rich colors on Graphic 45's French Country collection were a perfect fit for this case file.  For the evidence I chose this 6" clock face which I embossed and stripes in the paper.    The testimony I chose documenting a journey. 

This is a picture of a trip I took with my mother two years ago to Scotland.  The scenery was incredible!  We had such a grand time. 

I love these new chipboard piece in the Creative Embellishment store.  I embossed the clock face and chicken wire with two embossing powder to create this aged look.  The cross was first sprayed black then dry brushed with Shimmerz Spiced Cider.  Finally the word chippie was simply sprayed black so  then applied a coat of Crackle Accents for and aged appearance that  would make it stand out on the very busy page.

"An Eerie Tale Box"

 

 A happy spring day to you all!  Kathleen here with a slightly out of season altered project to share with you.  I love fairy tales and Graphic 45 has a fun paper collection that inspired this creation.  I hope you enjoy it.

My first step was to cut all my major pieces to size.  This is a 15" round box which once housed a special birthday present from my daughter to me.  The base side of the box is 3" high and the lid side is 11/4" with the top of the lid at 4" circle.  Once these pieces were cut I began to adhere them with Helmar D'ecoupage and Craft paste.  I opted to put the Helmar D'ecoupage paste directly on the box for a strong solid base to my project.  All layers after that the paste was applied directly to the paper.  Note; make sure you use the smoothing tool that comes with the  Helmar D'ecoupage  and Craft paste to smooth out any bubbles that may result during the application. 

I wanted to add dimension to to the cutout flowers around the base of the box and on top of the book.  To do this I applied a generous amount of Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots and lightly put the pieces in place.  They take a bit of time to dry so be careful when handling your project until it sets which takes several hours.  If you are the patient type then it is best to leave it over night.  

I used Helmar Acid Free Glue  to adhere the printed paper to the cardstock.  It dries quickly so you can keep moving on completing your project.  I cut out 4 -  3" x 5" pieces of orange card stock and 4 - 2 3/4 x 4 3/4 pieces of different pattern paper to create my book.  After gluing I folded them in half and ran a Popsicle stick the back.
 To finish the project I gathered up a wide assortment of flowers and used Helmar Acid Free Glue to hold them in place.
